Wain, also known as Wayne Thomas was born in Kentucky. He married Martha Bradley 9 May 1842 in Barren County, Kentucky. According to family history, she died when thrown from a horse, two months after they were married.
He married Lucinda Sears, daughter of William Sears and Alice Kirby about 1843. Child of this marriage was Malinda Thomas born 11 June 1844 Macon County, Missouri. Lucinda died when Malinda was born.
He married Amanda Malone about 1849. She died within a year of fever on 13 April 1850. She is buried at the Smith Burying Ground in Randolph County, Missouri "wife of Wain Thomas" is written on her tombstone.
October 30, 1851 in Randolph County, Missouri Wayne Thomas married Martha M. McDavitt.
Six children were born to them: Jennie Ida, Emma Lazetti, Lulu, William B., John J., Charles Wayne. Biography of Charles W. Thomas is written in "History of San Joaquin County, California: with biographical sketches", page 1191
Wayne is noted in his son's biography.
Wayne migrated from Missouri to California about 1873. He was a carpenter and a member of the Masonic Lodge at Linden. He grew orchards of various fruits.
