Will was the son of Samuel Cox Allen and Jane Elizabeth Gore. He ran a general store in Morrisonville, Illinois, was a farmer in 1900 in Martin, Weakley, Tennessee, a salesman for Bowersock Mill & Flour Company until 1915, and a grocer in Decatur, IL. He was a past Worshipful Master of the Masonic Lodge.
On 6 June 1883 in Rochester, Sangamon, Illinois he married Mary A. Saunders. Their children: Guy Francis, Roy Orville, boy who died in infancy, and Emma Jane.
Per findagrave contributor Kpet: W.L. Allen, victim of a sudden attack of appendicitis, was in much worse condition Thursday. He had a sinking spell Thursday and may not recover. He is now at the Decatur and Macon County hospital. Mr. Allen was operated on Wednesday but the appendix was not removed. If he recovers sufficiently, the operation will be completed.
