William is the first born son to William and Phebe Campbell Atkinson. He was the fifth child. On his death certificate he is listed as a retired blacksmith. Cause of death is Brocial Pnuemonia of 9 days. He was a widow at the time of death. His wife, Selina Knighton Atkinson preceded him in death in 1927. She was born December 13, 1841. Informant for death certificate was Willam H Atkinson of Ogden, Utah.
The following info for this bio was given to me by Curtis, and written by William Newlove Atkinson's granddaughter, Selina Fern Atkinson Willie about 1948.
Grandpa, William N. Atkinson, was born in New Brunswick, Canada and came with his parents and their family to Utah in 1853 and settled in Bountiful, which was also called Woods Cross. He was sent several times with supplies to meet various handcart companies. With one of these handcart companies, traveling with no relatives was a very attractive little 19-year-old English girl by the name Selina Knighton. She had been born in 1841 in Loscoe, Derbyshire, England and baptized in 1850. It seemed to be love at first sight when they met out there on the plains. When they reached the "Valley" he took Selina home with him and they were married December 18 1861. They lived in the same house for 66 years, they had eight children, four sons and four daughters, three daughters died in infancy. William was only average height, and never carried much weight. His hair was dark but with a sandy touch, he wore a short chin beard and moustache, but later in life she shaved off the beard. It was rather sandy. He was a blacksmith all his life, but also farmed and was a part time carpenter. Blacksmiths were very important people in those early pioneer days. It was always grandpa that wrote to us, and he was a beautiful penman, and fairly well educated for those times. He died 14 March 1928 at age 88 years.
