NATCHEZ — Services for the Rev. Henry Evans Sr., 79, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Windy Hill No. 1 Baptist Church with the Rev. James Anderson officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Rev. Evans was born Feb. 11, 1929, in Adams County, the son of Metcalfe Evans Sr. and Easter Smith Evans. Rev. Evans was a member of Windy Hill No. 1 Baptist Church and was retired as a self-employed furniture upholsterer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five siblings, Nevada Campbell, Viola Cook, James Evans, Metcalfe Evans Jr. and Albert Evans; one grandson, Joshua Cooper; and one granddaughter, Johnella Diameeka Malone.
Survivors include four sons, Ronald Dean Evans and wife, Charlotte, and Henry Evans and wife, Lydia M., all of Atlanta, Joseph Evans and wife, Cynthia, both of Mobile, and Vernon Evans Sr. and wife, Patricia, both of Cedar Hill, Texas; two daughters, Gloria Malone and husband, Willie, and Joyce Armstrong and husband, Cornelius, all of Memphis, Tenn.; 20 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Maggie Evans, Roberta E. Logan and Carrie Evans, all of Natchez, and Mary Flournoy of Chicago; two brothers, Wilbert Evans of Natchez and Louis Evans and wife, Evelyn, both of New Orleans; a special friend and former wife, Ollie Mae Evans of Natchez; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Robert Evans, Anjuan Evans, Nicholas Evans, Ralphael Evans, Vernon Evans Jr. and Randal Keith Armstrong.
