Bernice Elizabeth was born the youngest daughter of Nils & Etta May (McCorkle) Johnson. She was a graduate of Ellsworth High School finishing with the class of 1924. She took nurse's training in the University Hospital at Iowa City. She married Cecil Clyde Bolsinger on 18th of June 1927 at Aledo, Illinois. Bernice and Cecil had three children; Robert Clyde, Richard Dean, and Sondra Lea. She and Cecil moved around before settling in Des Moines, so each of their children were born in a different county. Bernice was a member of the Acanthus Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star and the Daughters of the Nile. Her death came tragically after injuries in a one car accident on Jan 2nd, when her vechicle hit a bridge support, then slid sideways about halfway up an embankment and then rolled back down into the creekbed. Initially, it was thought that she would survive from her wounds which was a fractured vertebra between the shoulders, but she died when a blood clot formed in her leg traveled and to her heart. She and Cecil were active members of the Grace Methodist Church where a Bernice E. Memorial Fund was created after her death. Charitable that she was, she donated her body to the University of Iowa Medical School at Iowa City.
