He married his childhood friend, Helen. They first lived on Mill Street in Washington. Later they moved to Toledo, Ohio and later back to Pleasant Hill, Indiana. Les and Helen then moved back to Cumback and he worked at the Chrysler Plant in Evansville from 1935 to 1959 (Hiram B. manuscript, pp. 2, 21, 34).
In his father's death notice of 1945, Leslie is listed as being on the Washington (Indiana) rural route (ibid).
As a youngster, Les was riding the sweep, a device pulled around and around by a horse. Les was wearing a string for a garter to hold his socks up. Pulling his leg back to tie the string, his heel got caught in the cogs of the sweep. It ground his heel until all that was left of his shoe was the top, toe and laces. Les had a terrible scare and he carried it to his grave (ibid).
