Alexander, Joanne E. 71, of Shelby, passed away Monday, Feb. 4, 2008 at her home. She was born Feb. 14, 1936 in Shelby, the daughter of Joseph "Scott" Montgomery and Edna E. (Burmeister) Montgomery. She married A. James Alexander Feb. 9, 1957. Mrs. Alexander was a lifelong resident of the Shelby area. She and her husband owned and operated the Shelby Greenhouse from 1968 to 1980. She was later employed at the Oceana County Clerk's Office. She was a member of Shelby Congregational United Church of Christ. Mrs. Alexander was active with the Oceana Relay For Life and the Oceana Cancer Support Group. She also enjoyed membership in the Red Hat Society. She is survived by her husband, Jim; her children, Jeffrey Alexander of Grandville, Steven (Valerie) Alexander of Haslett and Jean (Kenneth) VanTuinen of Holland; grandchildren, Natasha, Michaela, Mason, Dana and Laine Alexander, Patrick (Erin) VanTuinen, Emily (Matthew) Bartlett and Elise VanTuinen; and her sister, Joyce (Tom) Davis of Oakland, Mich. The funeral service was set for Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2 p.m. at Shelby Congregational United Church of Christ with Pastor Bonnie Stagg officiating. Interment in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
