Dena was born in Egersund, Norway. Her parents were: Halvard Halvorsen and Magdaline Nelson.
She emigrated in 1882 at the age of 17 to Eau Claire, WI. Soon afterward she joined a brother (Halbert Bertinius Halvorsen) in Chicago and was married there in March 1889 to Paul Anderson. They spent a few years in Carpentersville, IL, and Stoughton, then to their farm in Big Hollow, Akan township,which was their home until the husband's death in the 47th year of their marriage. Paul and Dena had 10 children: Minnie-John Turnmire,Annie-Ted Halvorsen-Lee Oleson, Helen-Oluf Olson, Herbert-Berniece Burris, Mabel-Jim Clanin, Caroline-Alfred Harper, Pearl-Larry Pittenger, Phillip who died at birth, Lee-Margit Goplen and Clifford-Lina Goplen.
She and her husband farmed in Akan township until his death in 1936.
Dena died in the Richland Center hospital Friday Dec 20, 1963 after a long illness. She had been at Pine Valley Manor for a year.
The funeral was held at 1:30pm Monday Dec 23,1963 in Five Points Lutheran Church and burial in the church cemetery.
