FRANCIS F. "FREDDIE" BALL

Francis F. "Freddie" Ball, 91, died at 4:40 p.m. April 8, 2009, at St. Rita's Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 3, 1917, in Ottawa to Frank and Mary Mueller Ball, who preceded him in death. On Feb. 14, 1946, he married Evelyn Frey, who died July 6, 2006.

Mr. Ball retired in 1983 as a motor mechanic from Ford Motor Co. Lima Engine Plant, after 26 years. He was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa. He was a member fo American Legion Post 63, Ottawa, for 64 years, and a member of the Ford Retirees Club through United Auto Workers, union Local 1219, Lima. He was a Army veteran of World War II, where he received a Bronze Star for action in Italy and a recognition award from France for participating in the Normandy Invasion. He was proud of his Army scrapbook. He bowled for 50 years. He was a resident of Putnam Acres Care Center, Ottawa, since 2005.

Survivors include two sons, Jim Ball and Kevin Ball, both of Ottawa, and a daughter, Rosie (Rodney) Sutter, of Ottawa; five grandchildren, Jon (Carrie) Sutter, Kristine (Chris) Stillings, Cindy (Craig) Fischer, Jason (Trina) Ball and April (Keith) Fischer; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons. Tom and Duane Ball, three brothers, Louis, Stanley and John Ball; four sisters, Catherine Brickner, Dolores Haas, Anna Shryock and Cecelia Heath.

Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa. Father Matt Josefiak will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery, with military rites by American Legion Post 63 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9142.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Love Funeral Home, Ottawa, where a Scripture service will be held at 2:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to SS. Peter & Paul Renovation Fund, the activities fund at Putnam Acres Care Center or the charity of the donor's choice.
