Suzanne "Taffy" Alarcon (nee Rudolph) of East Fallowfield
Suzanne "Taffy" Alarcon (nee Rudolph) of East Fallowfield, died on October 22, 2011 surrounded by family.
She grew up in Gradyville and attended Notre Dame High School in Media. After graduation, Taffy followed her calling to the convent to become a missionary but medical problems prevented her from making that her life's work. She was passionate about horses and in her 20s became a member of the Four Seasons Riding Club. Her adventurous spirit lead her to travel on four continents. Eventually she met J. Edgar Alarcon, then a medical researcher from El Salvador. They married and had four daughters. They spent most of their married life in a house above the Brandywine Creek. The home was a living classroom that instilled in the girls a sense of conservation and self-sufficiency. Taffy was active in real estate consulting and development. Her sharp mind for business made her a successful office manager for Summit House Condominiums and for Dr. Alarcon's medical practice. Taffy's gourmet cooking was widely loved and it was impossible to visit Taffy and Edgar's home without being fed. Over the years they opened their home to many friends and family members to help them through hard times. For several years she taught computers at Coatesville Catholic Elementary School, impressing upon the students the excitement of practical application of technology. An avid reader and follower of politics, she often recounted stories of "gutsy ladies" through history and in her own life which inspired her daughters to believe they could be anything they wanted. She had a strong Catholic faith and worshiped at Our Lady of the Rosary in Coatesville. This faith helped her face several years of chronic pain with patience and dignity. When confronted with a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer and a short life expectancy she found comfort and inspiration in the thought of "going home" for eternal rest.
There she has joined her parents Suzie and Dick Rudolph and her sister Beatrice. There she awaits her children Michele Refford, Stephanie Alarcon, Suzie Alarcon, and Laura Alarcon, her eleven surviving siblings, her grandchildren Alexandra Shy, Becca and Matthew Refford, Zoe Alarcon Hurst, and Calvin Uleau-Alarcon.
There will be a memorial mass at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, 80 South 17th Avenue, Coatesville on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. Family and friends may call at the church from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Wednesday morning.
A private interment will follow the mass.
