Martha Gray Akers, 84, of Bardstown, formerly of Bloomfield, died Monday, January 17, 2000 at Colonial Health & Rehab Center. A native of Cynthiana, she was the daughter of the late John Ira and Mary Elizabeth Darnell Gray. She was the widow of Astor K. Akers. She was a retired employee of the Nelson County Board of Education, having taught at the old Bloomfield Middle School, and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bardstown.
Survivors include: one son, Alan Kent Akers, Sr., Bardstown; one daughter-in-law, Linda Akers; one sister, Dru Wearen, Harrodsburg; two brothers, John Ira Gray Jr., Florence, and Julian Gray, Cynthiana; two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Dave and James Carl Gray; one sister, Mary Elizabeth Wierbaugh.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 19, at the Houghlin Funeral Home in Bloomfield. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Bloomfield.
