Col. Russel H Alcott was the son of Amon Alcott 1792 and Louisa Mary Skinner.

He married Cordelia A Page, the daughter of Gilbert Page and Lydia Eliza Gillett.

He entered the Civil War on August 16,1861 at Ann Arbor Michigan. He was commissioned an officer in Company A, Michigan 1st Infantry Regiment. He died in the second battle of Bull Run. Russell is buried in Arlington National Cemetery in a mass grave with other Union soldiers killed during the battle.

The couple had two children, Alice G and Florence (Floy).
