Emanuel Britton was the son of John and Mary Britton, both from Virginia. Emanuel was born in Georgia, in either Jasper or Butts County.
Emanuel married Jane L. Smith on July 10th, 1828 in Butts Co., GA. They had 12 children. After her death, Emanuel married Lucy Smith (his brother-in-law's widow) on Aug 11, 1864 in Coweta Co., Ga. They had no issue.
Emmanuel Britton was a pastor and farmer.
From 1851 to 1853 he was Pastor of Mt Zion Baptist Church, in Troup Co., Ga.

From 1859 to 1862 he was Pastor of Mt Pisgah Primitive Baptist Church in Stroud, Chambers Co., Ala. The church is located on US Hwy 431, 15mi north of Lafayette, AL.

About 1970, his descendants placed a new granite marker at his grave as the old limestone marker was almost illegible.
