Daniel was born to John and Rhoda (David) Counsil in Pennsylvaia.
He first married Margaret Wensel in 1846. His first child, Edith Mirabell, as born in 1847. Margaret died in 1851 in Clinton County, Pennsylvania.
Daniel then married Nancy from Ohio but that marriage only lasted a very short time.
He moved to Iowa and married Eliza Jane Arnold, daughter of William and Hannah Hornback (Coffman) Arnold.
While in Iowa he work as a merchant and was a Justice of the Peace. He and his family lived in Iowa for at about 15 years. He moved his family to Kansas around 1871 and was chosen as the Justice of the Peace for Elk Falls, Howard County, Kansas. (Elk Falls is now in Elk County). Moving west he lived in Winlock, Lewis County, Washington, for a short time and settled finally in Tidewater, Lincoln County, Oregon, where he lived the rest of his life.
Daniel and Eliza's children: Dick, Frank E., James, Fannie Barker and Ernest COUNSIL.
