Caroline Elizabeth Hardin Alston died peacefully at a local nursing home on Thursday, July 9, 2009, at the age of 98.

She was born in Atlanta, Ga. on Dec. 3, 1910, the youngest of three children, to Dr. and Mrs. Lewis Sage Hardin.

She was reared in Decatur, Ga., married Bob Alston, and had three children. In 1956, they moved to Chattanooga and resided on Lookout Mountain, Ga.

She loved her family, her church, Lookout Mountain Presbyterian, and her friends. She will be remembered by those who knew her as "Sis", "Caroline" and "GeGe."

Mrs. Alston was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Alston; and son, Bobby.

She is survived by two daughters, Lansing and Ian Hamilton, Victoria and Jack Jennings; ten grandchildren; Ian Jr. and Stacey Hamilton, Lansing and Scott Bosgraf, Alston and Sheri Hamilton, Zachary and Kristin Jennings, Bradley Jennings and Daniel Jennings; nine great-grandchildren, Alex, Hamilton and Mya Bosgraf, Grace, Alston II, and Mary Hardin Hamilton, Zoe and Olivia Hamilton and Will Jennings.

Caroline had been ill for an extended time. Her family would like to thank the following for their wonderful care of her: Winell Stevens, Elaine Jenkins, Elizabeth Sharp, Southern Heritage Assisted Living, Life Care Center of Red Bank and Hospice of Chattanooga.

In lieu of flowers, if you choose, please remember her by contributing to St. Jude Research Hospital, The Salvation Army, Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church Memorial Gardens or a charity of your choice.
