daughter of Lucretia Elizabeth Mayes & James Marion Watson, married George Morgan Abraham
Cordelia Margaret Watson Abraham, 94, was born on September 6, 1990, in Oronogo, Mo., to James Marion Watson and Lucretia Elizabeth Mayes. She died at her daughter's home in Byron Wednesday, February 22, 1995.
Margaret was the oldest of eight children. She had four sisters, Lucie, Ethel, Ruth and Naomi; and four brothers, George, Wayne, Ralph and Calvin Levi, who died as a baby. She attended her first seven years of schooling in Oronogo, then went to high school in Webb City, where she graduated as valedictorian of her class.
After graduating from high school she began working for a men's store in Webb City. It was during this time that her family was introduced to the Mormon church through the full time missionaries. She was baptized on October 6, 1918, as a member of the Mormon church.
Mrs. Abraham then moved to Kansas City, Mo. where she worked for Montgomery Wards. It was here that she met George Abraham, who was serving a mission for the church. The couple was married on June 9, 1926, in the Salt Lake Temple. they honeymooned in Yellowstone Park and came home to Byron to make their home. George died on Feb. 10, 1983.
Born to this union were four daughters, Catherine Ruth, who died in 1935, Naomi, Norma and Margie; and two sons, Goerge Watson and John Marion.
Margaret loved her family and always tried to have the cookie jar full and her candy jars too. She was an ardent reader and loved to play the piano, which she played by ear.
Mrs. Abraham enjoyed being Lovell's Senior Rose Queen during the 1994 Mustang days celebration.
She lived alone until last year when she became ill and went to live with her daughter Naomi and Dave Briggs and then later with Norma and Charles Hessenthaler.
She is survived by three daughters, Naomi Briggs and Norma Hessenthaler, both of Byron, and Margie of Bountiful, Utah; two sons, George and John, both of Byron; one sister, Ruth of Phoenix, Ariz.; one brother, Ralph of Carterville, Mo.; 27 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchldren.
She was preceded in death by one grandchild and on great-grandchild.
Services were held Monday, Feb. 27, 1995, at the Byron Church with Bishop Allan Clark officiating. Interment followed in the Byron Cemetery
