Harden Barney Taliaferro was born and raised in Texas. He married Cornelia Ernestine Gossett Taliaferro from the State of Georgia after she relocated to Texas as a young girl. In 1968, his widow passed away from a stroke.
He was the son of John Kirkland Taliaferro and Margaret Abigail Beach Taliaferro (a.k.a. Dizie Sr.). He worked as a cattle rancher, miner and on occasion for the United States Postal Service.
Harden eventually relocated to Carlsbad New Mexico with his wife and new family.
In 1932 while working in a mine, he was kicked in the back by a mule. He developed a cancerous tumor of the kidney from this injury and died one year later in a New Mexico Hospital.
His death devastated his young family. He was survived by his wife Cornelia Ernestine Gossett Taliaferro, his mother Margaret Abigail Beach Taliaferro (a.k.a. Dizie Sr.), his sisters, Dizie Helen Taliaferro Snyder, Mary Elizabeth Taliaferro and his five children:
John G. Taliaferro (deceased, 1996),
Ruth Taliaferro (deceased, 1978),
Margaret Anne Taliaferro, (deceased, 2008),
June Mary Taliaferro, and
Harden Barney Taliaferro Jr. a.k.a. Gus Snyder taken by Dizie Sr. and raised by Harden's sister Dizie Helen Taliaferro Snyder (deceased, 1979).
He was preceded in death by his father John Kirkland Taliaferro, two infant daughters Mary and Grace Taliaferro, and an unnamed stillborn twin of Harden Barney Taliaferro Jr. who passed two hours after his birth.
Harden was adored by his wife and children. He was always a strong, intense man and never shied away from difficulty in his life. He never had the opportunity to meet his grandchildren,
but he is remembered through family stories and was loved very much. His heartbroken widow devoted the remainder of her days working as a Practical Nurse to support her children.
She helped raise Harden's grandson and never remarried.
We who are left behind are proud to be related to you, Grandfather, and we look forward to seeing you on the other side.
