Songwriter. He penned the number one hits "You're No Good" recorded by Dee Dee Warwick and Betty Everett in the 1960s and by Linda Ronstadt in the 1970s, and "Game of Love", for the British group Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders. The song was featured prominently in the film "Good Morning Vietnam" (1987). He served in the Army in Japan as a radio operator, then moved to New York and played piano in nightclubs. He discovered the harmony duo the Kalin Twins in Washington, D.C., in 1957, and became their manager, writing their first single, "Jumpin' Jack". Mitch Miller and His Orchestra recorded Ballard's "Hey Little Baby" on the B side of "March From the River Kwai". The melody was used as the theme for the 1958 World's Fair in Belgium. In 1960, Jimmy Jones reached number three on the Billboard charts with a song Ballard co-wrote called "Good Timin'". He also wrote a number one song for The Hollies "I'm Alive", "Gingerbread" for Frankie Avalon, Rick Nelson's "There's Not A Minute", and the Zombies "Gotta Get a Hold of Myself". In the late 1970s, he moved to Dallas, and retired in Denton, where he became a real estate investor. (bio by: katzizkidz)
