Obit on Clifford Edward Schwartz--
Clifford Edward Schwartz, a highly respected and appreciated resident of Clark for 46 years, died September 1,1992 at Prairie Lakes Health Care Center in Watertown following an apparent heart attack suffered at his home in Clark.
He was born at Volga June 3,1914, the son of Paul and Minnie (Van Maanen) Schwartz. He graduated from high school at Mott, ND, and in 1938 attended the Moler Barber College at Fargo, ND. He served as barber in many communities before moving to Clark March 1,1946. He operated his barber shop in Clark for 30 years, retiring in July of 1976.
He married Gorrine Will on January 1,1937, at Elgin, ND. she died in 1965. On December 25,1967, he married Orva Wika Huffman at the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Clark.
During his years at Clark he served as chairman of the congregation of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, and was president at the time the new church was built in 1951. He was also a member of the church choir for 40 years.
He was involved with city government as a councilman from 1951 to 1954, and he was also appointed to the Clark Housing and Redevelopment Board when it was organized in December 1968, and he continued as chairman until his death. During 1974-1975 he was the Justice of Peace at Clark.
Pehaps he will be best remembered by friends for his woodworking talent. Residents of the Clark Care Center have special memories involving his service as custodian and friend starting in December of 1977 and continuing until his death. His church benefited from his building ability in many ways. He took much pride in his work that touched not only those residents at the Care Center but also his many friends in the community and they will remember that he was always ready to lend a hand.
Patrons at his barber shop will recall that he had a comic book and probably a lollipip for the little boys receiving their first haircusts.
Survivors are his wife, Orva of Clark; a son and his wife, Robert and Roberta Schwartz of Aurora; three stepdaughters, Mrs Wally (Clarice) Cold of Putnam, IL, Mrs Harold (Jeanette) Keyes of Clark, and Mrs Doug (Shirley) Lyles of Priceton, IL; 18 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Mrs Elinor Schwartz of Huron.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Gorrine; a son Curtis in 1946 and a brother, Milford.
