John Anthony Cook, 84, of Simpsonville, passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2009, after a long illness.

Born September 29, 1924 to Christiaan Hendrikus Kok and Jacoba Binnekade-Kok in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Christian; and sister, Lies Kok-Humpig, all of the Netherlands.

He is survived by his loving wife, Cornelia M. Buhrs-Cook; his sons, Jerome B. Cook of Chicago, Ill., Hubert J. Cook of Greenville, S.C., and Vincent C. Cook of Ossining, N.Y.; and his daughter, Gabriela Cook-DiDomenico of Scarborough, Maine and their families; his brother, Jacobus Kok; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews in the United States as well as the Netherlands.

John was a long time member of the Grace Episcopal Church in Middletown, N.Y., where he was a devoted member of the choir as well as part-time organist. Upon his retirement and move to S.C., John was a member of Christ Episcopal Church of Greenville as well as Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Simpsonville. He was the past president of the Symphony Guild in Greenville. John was a talented and gifted musician who will be missed by his loving family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Greenville Cancer Society , 113 Mills Ave, Greenville, SC 29605 or Open Arms Hospice, 1836 West Georgia Road, Simpsonville, SC 29680, where John received wonderful care and support.

A memorial service will be held on March 28, 2009 at 1 p.m. in Holy Cross Episcopal Church, Simpsonville, S.C.
