Mrs E. Alcie (Garr) Winters, 81, widow of the late H. E. (Ed) Winters, and long time area resident, died Tuesday in the Jane Phillips Memorial Medical Center.
Funeral services for Mrs. Winters will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday in the Dewey Funeral Home Chapel, Mr. Leon Martin, minister of the Dewey First Christian Church will be the officiant. Committal rites wil be in the Thayer Cemetery.
Mrs. Winters was born at Caney, Kan., on Oct. 25, 1902. She was the daughter of the late Catherine M. Studyvan Garr and William D. Garr. She was reared in the Caney community and attended the Caney Schools. She was graduated from the Caney High School with the senior class of 1922 and was a student of the Success Secretarial School in Bartlesville. She was employed in the Natural Gasoline Dept. of Cities Service Oil Co. in Bartlesville. She and the late Harry Edwin Winters were married here on May 28, 1934 and they made their first home in Dewey. In 1943 Mrs. Winters was employed by the local United States Bureau of Mines and worked as a secretary and in the clerical department of the local Energy Research Center until she was retired in 1964. Mr. and Mrs. Winters had been former residents of Wann, where they lived on a farm before returning to Dewey. Following Mr. Winters death on Dec. 12, 1975, Mrs. Winters made her home in Copan, living in retirement. Mrs. Winters deeded part of the property to the Copan Senior Citizens where the present Senior Citizen Organization built their building. She was an active member of the Dewey First Christian Church, a member of the Copan Chapter No. 475 O. E, S. and had formerly been a member of the Dewey Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star in which she served as worthy matron. She was also a member of the Bethel White Shrine Chapter No. 3 of Bartlesville, and the National Association of Federal Employees.
Surviving Mrs. Winters are one daughter, Mrs C. W. (Anna Lee) Swearingin, rural Dewey; one sister, Mrs A, P. (Edna) McCauley, Campbell, Calif.; one brother, Clarence Oliver Garr, Dearing, Kan.; two grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; one step-great great grandson. Two sisters Miss Edith May Garr and Mrs. Alice Beecham and one brother Edward Lawrence Garr preceded her in death.
