Born in the Village of Hermon to Morse and Gertrude (Partridge-Chaney) Hale, Jim graduated from Hermon High School and Hobart College. He ran his family's grocery store in the village until 1942, when he became a CPA for General Electric in Schenectady, New York. Transferred to Syracuse in 1946, he spent the rest of his life there. Jim died from bladder cancer in March 1967.
