My great-grandfather, Michael Moody was born in 1829 to John and Nancy Moody, in Tennessee. He wed Mary "Polly" Scroggins in June, 1849, in Tennessee, and moved his family first to Texas in about 1860, then to Arkansas by 1869, than to Texas again about 1880. Their children were Samuel A., Peter M., William L., James A., John, Margaret J., Thomas S., and Arkey Lee. Michael farmed and raised cattle, and for years maintained property in both Carroll County, Arkansas, and Wise County, Texas, moving his family back and forth, before finally settling them mostly in Texas - youngest son Tom eventually got the Arkansas property and lived in that state the rest of his life, and daughter Margaret had married and also stayed in Arkansas before moving to Oklahoma in the early 1900s. Michael died in 1881 while driving cattle from Carroll Co. Arkansas to Wise Co. Texas, and was buried right beside the old Southwest Trail and very near the Red River, which they had just crossed.
