Hannah Eliza, daughter of Phoebe (Merritt) and Samuel Throop was born March 17, 1856, in the town of Eden, Fon du Lac county, Wi. At the age of 11 years she was bereft of her father. One year later she came by team and sleigh to the town of Canton, Buffalo, county, Wi. During her girlhood days she taught Sunday School and rural schools at a time when teachers boarded among families of the community.
On Dec. 8, 1874, she married Wesley J. Goss. This union was blessed with 11 children, who watched at her bedside when she passed away, Sat. Nov. 25 at the age of 83 years,8 months, 8 days. Despite her mature age, keenness of mind and interest i everything in life did not wane until the very end. Thus a pioneer has gone to her rest.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 3 sisters, 1 brother, and one step dau.
She leaves to mourn her loss the following children; William of Drammen township, Isabel who is Mrs. Chancy Goss of Mondovi, Ethel who is Mrs. Geo. Van Pelt, and Esther who is Mrs. Guy Gibson, Minor of Eleva, Eugene of Osseo, Charlotte who is Mrs. John Ellingson, and Arvilla who is Mrs. E.A. Perry of Mondovi, Victor of Hillsboro, Noble and Phoebe at home, and one step dau. Eva who is Mrs. E. McLaughlin of Moravia, N.Y., one half brother Amos Rand of Kinuso, Alberta, Canada, 29 grandchildren, 8 step grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
Her remains found their rest in the Oak Park Cemetery.
