Funeral services for Emma Alden, who died Friday, March 31, after severl months illness, were held in the family home in Wyoming at 1:30 plm. Sunday, with the Rev. E.G. Steinman, pastor of the Methodist church in charge. Burial was in the Mayflower cemetery, Oxford Junction. Casket bearers were Robert Alden, Paul Levsen, Henry Fishwild, Allison Fishwild, George Fishwild and William Brodersen.
Music for the service was furnished by Luther Fuhrmeister of Cedar rapids. Those from out of town who attended the service were: Mr and Mrs Herbert Alden of Milan, Ill.; Mrs. Ruth Betz of Sioux City; Mrs. Jean Miller of chillicothe, Ill.; Mrs. Emma Haun Kettlesen and Miss Dora Thomson of Mount Vernon; Mr and Mrs Luther Fuhrmeister, Mr and Mrs Henry Achter, George Fuhrmeister, Clara Fuhrmeister, Nellie Fuhrmeister, Zella Biglow and Mrs. Katherine H Richardson, all of Cedar Rapids.
Emma Alden was born on the farm that is now the home of Robert Alden. Of a family of seven children, she was the sixth child of William and Emily Williams Alden. She was always proud of her ancesors, Mulford L'Hommedieu, Roger Williams and John and Pricilla Alden.
She attended the rural school and Wyoming high school. She taught in the rural schools for a time and acquired a business education in Davenport.
She was a charter member of the Hawthorne club, taking her turn as secretary and president. A delegation of men insisted that she place her name on the ballot for mayor of Wyoming. She was twice elected. She served on the town council and as town treasurer. she was also treasurer of the Wyoming Historical society.
She ws treasurer of the Methodist church for many years and then became the financial secretary. She also served in the capacity of communion steward.
She is survived by one sister, Harriet Alden of Wyoming, and one brother, Alton Alden, with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
