Note: The spelling of this surname varied tremendously, especially during the early years when there was little effort made to standardize spelling. The headstone of Elijah uses Brasher. The headstone of his wife uses Beshears! Other spellings include Brashear, Brashears, and Brazier, etc. I have chosen to use Brasher because that was the version used by John Thompson and Elizabeth Susan Williams Brasher, and I am related to Elizabeth.
Elijah was the son of Lawrence and Elizabeth Black Brasher, born while they lived in South Carolina.
Elijah married Sarah "Sally" Long 8 Jul 1846 in Christian County, Kentucky.
They were parents Of the following known children: Emalissa G., Winfield Garnett, Winchester Monroe, Aquilla C. "Ab", Elizabeth Jane and William Zion.
Note: Stone has fallen and its dark color and shaded site make reading difficult but not impossible.
