Mary, who usually went by Elizabeth, came out West from Liberty, Missouri with her parents in a wagon train of about 50 families when they left Missouri. She married Albert Franklin Davidson of Kentucky on November 06, 1851 and they had two children: Thomas and Mary. They divorced and Elizabeth married John S. Estes of Maine on December 4, 1857. They had 3 children. She told the story of their trip on the Oregon trail in vivid detail to members of her family around the fireside on Christmas Eve, 1916, as documented in the book "The Trail Blazers," written in 1935 by Martha Alice (Turnidge) Hamot and published by Portland Metropolitan Publishing Co. of Portland, Oregon.
