Richard D. Elburn, 89 of Chestertown, MD, died April 15, 2012 in Chestertown Nursing and Rehab. Mr. Elburn was born on August 19, 1922, the son of late Walter and Molly Ringgold Elburn. He was a lifetime resident of Chestertown where he operated Skipper Farm and for 40 years operated a residential trash removal service in Kingstown. Mr. Elburn was a WWII Veteran serving for 3 years with the Army's 631st Tank Destroyer Battalion. This included four major campaigns in the European Theatre, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was a member of the Frank M. Jarman American Legion Post 36 in Chestertown. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his four brothers, Ringgold, Walter, Joseph and James Elburn. Mr. Elburn is survived by his wife of 65 years, Helen Cole Elburn,; 2 daughters, Marie Brennan and her husband Gerald of Chestertown and Josie Elburn of Millington; 2 granddaughters, Jenna and Laurie Elburn; a great-grandson, J. Mason Dixon and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 18 at 11 am in the Galena Funeral Homes of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena, MD, where friends may call from 10 to 11 am. Burial in Chester Cemetery, Chestertown, MD. Memorials may be offered to the Kent & Queen Anne's Rescue Squad or Chestertown Vol. Fire Dept.
