Andrew was born to Archibald Armstrong and Mary Ann Branyon near Honea Path, S.C. in 1840. He enlisted as a Pvt. on June 29, 1862 with Capt. Miot's Company, Aiken's Reg't, Partisan Rangers; which became Co. G, 6th Reg't S.C. Cavalry CSA.
After the war he married Elizabeth Savannah Shirley on Nov. 8, 1870 and had 7 children. They moved to Texas where he farmed just west of Everman in Tarrant Co. He died at home from "Senility" in March of 1921.
