Mrs. Della Inex Pricer Parten, 98, passed away on January 1, 2014, in Camp Verde, Arizona. Prior to moving to Arizona, Mrs. Parten was a long time former resident of Las Cruces, where she raised her family and was a local business owner. She and her husband, Derwood Parten, were the owners of Parten's Rio Grocery, Parten's Grocery and Parten's Foodarama.
Mrs. Parten was born in Bell County, Texas, on October 18, 1915, to William Ira Pricer and Zilpha Harlan Richards-Pricer. She grew up in Bell County and graduated from Belton High School. She married Derwood Parten in 1936 in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and together they had seven children that they raised in the Las Cruces and Bayard, New Mexico areas, Gloria Maggard, Jeanette Foreman, Jerry Parten (deceased), Mary Louise Pritchett, Larry Parten (deceased), Doug Parten and Vance Parten. Mrs. Parten loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them whenever possible. She was the matriarch of the Parten family and was loved deeply and was respected and adored, not only by her family but by many people. She will be profoundly missed.
Mrs. Parten is survived by her children, Gloria Maggard of Las Cruces, Jeanette Foreman (husband Lowell) of Las Cruces, Mary Louise Pritchett (husband Harold) of Yuma, Arizona, Doug Parten of Las Cruces and Vance Parten of Cottonwood, Arizona. Mrs. Parten is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, and a large extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Derwood Parten, sons Larry Parten and Jerry Parten, along with her grandson Jeff Shelton. Also preceding her in death were her brothers Alvin, Albert, Logan, Manuel, and Zachary Taylor (ZT) Pricer and her sister Maude Dykes-Noble.
Services are being arranged by Getz Funderal Home and will be held in the Mausoleum at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 5140 West Picacho Avenue, Las Cruces, New Mexico, at 10:00 a.m., January 9, 2014. Burial will follow. Longtime friend of the family, Bill Ewing will be officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons Les Foreman, Larry Parten, Bill Parten, Chris Parten, Justin Parten and Curtis Nichols. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Mesilla Valley Hospice.
