Thomas U. Abplanalp, 65, of Oil City, died at 2:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 7, 2011, at the VA Hospital in Pittsburgh. Born Aug. 17, 1946, in Oil City, he was the son of the late Robert L. and Dorothy Riley Abplanalp
Tom attended Penn State and graduated from the Youngstown State University.
A certified public accountant, Tom ran Abplanalp Consulting for many years.
Mr. Abplanalp was a veteran of the United States Army, serving as a sergeant during the Vietnam War.
Tom coached Little League baseball and YMCA basketball and enjoyed taking long walks, playing basketball and singing karaoke.
He is survived by a son, Jason T. Abplanalp of Etters; a brother, Bob Abplanalp of Medford, N.J.; a nephew, Kevin Abplanalp of Charlotte, N.C.; a niece, Meghan Bracken of Audubon, N.J.; and a group of super friends.
There will be no viewing or visitation.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Stephen Church in Oil City with Father Matthew Ruyechan presiding.
Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
The Reinsel Funeral Home and Crematory in Oil City is handling arrangements.
