Jesse Henry Benton was the oldest of eleven children of Minnie Dora Champion and William Monroe Benton. He married Rosie Boothe and they had two living sons, Amos and Ora Benton. Jesse Benton's headstone reads: Jessie H. Benton Oct 27, 1897 Dec 24, 1921 (Note: His birthyear is actually 1896 and year of death is 1920. His name is also spelled Jesse. According to newspaper and other records he died on Dec. 20, 1920) Jesse's brother Rufus stated that Jesse was framed and was innocent of the crime that he was accused of committing. He died at age 24 from a rockfall in a mine, most likely in Idaho, but his brother Rufus stated that he died in Iowa.
