John was born 1831 or 1834 in Dutchess Co. NY, and was a son of Jacob and Polly (Whitehead) Henion. He married Halmina Janette Harmon 17 June 1855 in Union, Broome Co., NY. He served as a Pvt. in Co. E, Reg't. 137 NY Infantry. He probably died abt 1876 and has a government Civil War stone. He and his brothers George W. and David have Civil War pensions. His name was sometimes spelled Henyon.
