Obituary ~ Deseret News, Salt Lake City, Utah, Sat. 14 Dec 2002, Page B4

"Don Kimball Archer, age 91, returned home to his Father in Heaven December 11, 2002 with his loving wife and children by his side.
Born November 8, 1911 in Salt Lake City, Utah to William Charles Archer and Verna Lyle Kimball. Graduated from West High School and attended the University of Utah. He married Virginia Austin on June 15, 1935. Later sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple on Feb. 8, 1949.
Don was always a "goer". When not playing football he attended every dance available. He met Virginia at West High School and they danced together at every dance. They did not go steady until Virginia graduated in 1934 from the LDS School of Nursing. They lost their first child at birth, but later were blessed with four children, three daughters and one son.
Don and Virginia have been blessed to travel all around the world together. For 5 1/2 years he served in the bishopric of the Holladay 2nd Ward and served an additional eight years as a bishop also helping build the Holladay 11th Ward building. He and Virginia were later called to serve a mission to the British South Mission, where he was made Mission President. While he was bishop he was very dedicated and loved by his members and was always concerned about their welfare. As Mission President he was wonderful with his missionaries and very concerned with their well being. These two callings were the highlights of his life.
Don was a hard worker and worked hard at his company, State Brass Foundry & Machine. In his spare time he grew a wonderful vegetable garden giving his produce to many friends. He would get excited when he would sit down and go through his seed books.
We were all surprised when he began to get dementia; it took some time before he had to be put in a care center.

Don is survived by his wife of 67 years, Virginia; three daughters, one son, and adopted daughter. Also 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents and sister Norma Olson.
Funeral services Monday, Dec 16th, at Holladay 2nd Ward building, 2065 E. 4675 So., at 11:00 a.m.
