BERLIN -- Bruce A. Bartlett, 57, of Berlin, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, at UMass University Campus, Worcester, after a brief illness.
He was the wife of Judith A. (Vanderhoof) Bartlett for 37 years.
Born in Worcester, the son of Marguerite M. (Flood) Bartlett and the late Everett E. Bartlett Jr., he had lived in Berlin all his life.
For the past 35 years, Mr. Bartlett worked at Bartlett Flowers, a family business that he acquired from his father in 1980 as the fifth generation flower grower. Previously, he had worked for the Berlin Highway Department and for Roger E. Wheeler.
A graduate of Tahanto Regional High School in 1956, he was a graduate of the Assabet Valley Regional Vocational School L.P.N. program in Marlborough.
Mr. Bartlett was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.
A member of the First Parish Church and the American Legion Post No. 162, he was a former lieutenant at the Berlin Fire Department and was one of the first EMTs on the Berlin Rescue Squad.
He had held several town elected positions and served on the Board of Health in the early 1980s and late 1990s, and had served the town of Berlin as a fence viewer and field driver.
He enjoyed spending time with his family -- especially, his two granddaughters -- and spending the summer on Bradley Lake in New Hampshire, and he loved Aruba.
Besides his wife and mother, he leaves two daughters, Melissa A. Bartlett and Melynda L. Blair; a brother, Dennis, and a sister, Nancy Compton, all of Berlin, and a sister, Sue L. Ohmart of Hinsdale, N.H.; two granddaughters, Maya and MaKayla; many nieces, nephews and cousins; a son-in-law, Scott; and a dear friend, Victor Alecio.
A funeral service will be held Monday, Dec. 27, at 11 a.m., at First Parish Church of Berlin, Central Street.
Burial will be in South Cemetery.
Visiting hours are Sunday, Dec. 26, from 2 to 4 and 5 to 8 p.m., at the McNally & Watson Funeral Home, 304 Church St., Clinton.
