Col. Thomas White was the son of Thomas White and Sarah Shelton of Orange County, Virginia. He was a brother of William White, Shelton White, Capt. Joseph White of Jasper Co., GA, John White and Elbert Co., GA, Henry White of Elbert Co., GA, and Nancy White, wife of Caleb Oliver of Elbert Co., GA. The graves of Thomas's parents, Thomas and Sarah, step-mother, Elizabeth Long, and all of his siblings, except for William and Shelton, are either in unmarked graves, or have not been discovered in obscure rural locations, by myself after 20+ years of searching throughout the South.
According to Military Service Records in the Georgia State Archives, he served as a Colonel in the Georgia Militia during War of 1812.
he was married to Elizabeth Haynes Clark, daughter of Joseph Clark and Ann Hayes, on June 4, 1807 in Elbert County, Georgia. After the War of 1812, and the death of his father, he was able to obtain a large plantation in North Jones County, Georgia, which became known as the White district. His plantation home is still standing near the Jasper County line. There, he and his wife raised twelve children. Col. White died at his home in 1830 at the young age of 48 years old and is buried in the family cemetery on the old White plantation.
