Funeral services for Henry Allen, aged fifty-four, were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Westville Baptist church, with the pastor, the Rev. Walter A. Miller officiating. Mrs. Clarke Jewell and Mrs. Fulton Patterson sang two duets, "Life's Railway to Heaven" and "Sweet Hour of Prayer". The flora tributes were from friends and the Westville Grange. Burial was made in Westville cemetery. The bearers were William Petri, Sr., William Petri, Jr., Peter Petri, Phillip Petri, Seeber Bates, and Fred Ottaway. The funeral director was Karl Green.
Mr. Allen died Friday night, January 31st, at 7:30 in the Bassett Hosptial. He underwent an operation for hernia January 20th and was improving favorably until jaundice set in which, with other complications, caused his death.
He was born in London, England, and when a young man wet to Canada where he resided a number of years, after which he came to this country. After residing in several cities where he was in the bakery business, he moved to this place where he resided alone on a small farm at the foot of Sibley Hill. He was an initiatory member of Westville Grange having taken the 1st and 2nd degrees only two weeks previous to his death. His only surviving relatives, none of whom were able to attend the funeral, are a sister who resides in Cleveland, Ohio; a brother and his step-mother residing in England.
