Sarah Applebee
Sarah Magdelena Fulton Applebee was born Oct. 31, 1865, in Ohio, and passed away Sept. 23, 1957, at the age of 91 years, 10 months and 23 days, at the Lutheran Hospital, Beatrice, Nebraska.
When just a child her parents moved to Blue Rapids, Kan., where she made her life for many years.
In the year 1883 she married Joseph McLane. To this union five children were born, two girls and three boys. They later moved to Wymore, to make their home.
One daughter Josephine Wolf, and two sons, Bennie and John McLane preceded her in death. In 1934, Mr McLane preceded her in death.
In 1910, she moved to Beatrice and bought a cafe on Court Street, and in 1912 she married Jess Ellen Applebee. They made their home in Beatrice till his death in 1941. Mrs. Applebee lived alone till her passing.
She was the oldest one in a five generation. All five ladies were living: the daughter, Etta McGinty of Beatrice; the granddaughter, Gladys Powell of Fairbury; the great granddaughter, Etta Joiner of Colorado; The youngest of the generation was 14 and a half years old.
Survivors are: one daughter, Etta McGinty; one son, Ed McLane, both of Beatrice; five grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and twenty two great great grandchildren; two sisters, Bell Heathman and Ella Carlilie, both of Blue Rapids, Kan.
Funeral services were held at the Harmon Mortuary, Sept. 26, at 2:00, at Beatrice. Captain Isabelle Boyington officiating. Soloist were Lt. Kay Grittenden and Mrs. B. Stout. Place of interment Evergreen Home Cemetery, Beatrice. Casket bearers were Harry Knuppel, Fritz Liedtke, Royal Mosimann, Warren Penny, Paul Provorse and Ernest Scharton.
