Being unable to proceed farther with his teams, Amy's father loaded one of his horses with provisions and the other with beds and clothing, and with his wife and eight children, proceeded on foot nearly ten miles into a trackless wilderness to an uninhabited township, soon to become the town of Cavendish, Vermont.
They constructed a temporary cabin of poles and bark, and in time improved upon it to make it a comfortable cabin. For about two years the Paines and Coffeens were the only families living in Cavendish.
Amy married Isaace Baldwin, 13 Jun 1782, in Cavendish, VT. They had 11 children.
Isaac and Amy were lifetime residents of Cavendish. Always a kind word for their neighbors, Isaac and Amy would minister to the sick and destitute without monetary reward.
