There are no grave markers at the location of the burial of Van Buren & Rachel. A photographer went to the burial location which was conclusively located, but no markers were found.
Van Buren married Rachel Catherine Zeigler, 10 Nov 1864, in Carlisle, PA. Shortly thereafter they moved to Somerdale, NJ, where Van Buren farmed for about 20 years. They had 8 children, but only 3 of them lived to adulthood.
Sometime soon after they finished having children the family moved to Atlantic City, NJ. Van Buren then went into the hardware business. His business card read as follows:
Giffin, Cowan & Rauffenbart
1323 Atlantic Ave.
Atlantic City, NJ
Plumbing Tin-Roofing Drainage, Heaters, Brick-set, Wrought-iron & Cast-iron Ranges, Portable Ranges, Tools & Cutlery.
Van Buren was born when President Martin Van Buren was in office. The name Van Buren does not previously appear in the family, so it is likely Van Buren was named after the president.
Van Buren died of a hear attack at the age 71.
