William J. Baker, of Millsboro, died Wednesday, July 6, 2005, at St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington. He was 82.
He was a retired pier supervisor for the Getty Oil and Refinery Company. Mr. Baker was a graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y. and served with the Naval Reserves during WWII. He was a member of the Indian River Yacht Club and loved being on the water.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John T. and Helen (Stewart) Baker; and a brother, Jack Baker. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ann D. Baker; two sons, William J. Baker and his wife, Linda, of Middletown, and Thom Baker of New York, N.Y.; a daughter, Denise Ann Sherwood and her husband, Jeffrey, of New Castle; brother, Richard Baker; five grandchildren, Kelley, Jeffrey and Matthew Sherwood, Brittney and William J. Baker, III.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Monday, July 11, at Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church in Millsboro. Interment will be in St. George's Episcopal Cemetery near Lewes.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church, Parish Office, 202 Edward St., Georgetown, DE 19947.
