Thankful Clapp was the youngest child of Joshua Clapp and Mary Boyden Clapp. Her mother died when she was 2 years old and her father remarried to Silence Bird Wright. She married Ebenezer Stearns of Stoughton in 1734. Their first
child, Silence, was born in Walpole in 1735, but died the next day. Their next two oldest children, Eliphaz and Achsah, apparently were baptized in Sturbridge (New Medfield). In 1750 Ebenezer was surveyor of highways in Douglas, and their son Eliphaz and his wife Hannah Clark also lived in Douglas. In 1761, Thankful passed away, but there is no record of where. An unidentified entry in the Stearns genealogy notes: "My aged and honored mother deceased, May ye 22nd, 1761."
