This tree - a Prairie Fire Crabapple - was planted as a living memorial to all babies who have died.
The plaque under the tree reads "WE'VE BECOME PARENTS; WE'VE LOVED; WE'VE WEPT; WE'VE GROWN...SO TOO MAY THIS TREE GROW AS A LIVING MEMORIAL TO ALL BABIES WHO HAVE LIVED IN US, WITH US, AND WHO REMAIN ALIVE IN OUR HEARTS AND SAFE IN THE ARMS OF JESUS. DEDICATED THIS DAY, OCTOBER 17, 1987 BY RESOLVE THROUGH SHARING".
A special cemermony with Rev. Wallace Christen and other speakers, and a release of balloons - pink for girls, blue for boys, and white for babies whose gender was unknown, took place at Delavan Memorial Arboretum on Oct. 17, 1987.
