George was born in Berkeley, James City County, Virginia, the son of William Axe and Christina Keesecker. He married Mary Rose on October 11, 1833 in Wayne County, Ohio. The family removed to Porter Township, Porter County, Indiana sometime before June 1838 where George can be found as a copartner in a corporation. George was a physician and farmer. The following known children came from the union of George and Mary: Harriet, Elias, Elizabeth, Arnie, Eliza, Herschel, Francis, Emanuel, Mary, Rachel, Phebe, Leora, and Mathilda.

Newsy Notes from the County Seat.
George Axe, the oldest resident of Porter county, died at his home in Porter township Monday. He was nearly 90 years old, and had been a resident of this county for nearly 70 years. Several weeks ago he ran a nail in his hand and blood poisoning set in. The funeral was held Wesnesday [sic] from his late home.
