Tragedy struck the music department of Covina high school when Billy Roy Adsit, 15, soloist in the Easter Cantata was fatally injured Saturday night about 10:45 o'clock on Ramona blvd. just west of Francisquito in Baldwin Park, when struck by an automobile while he and a companion, Virginia Krafka, were walking along the highway.
Mrs. Krafka was not injured, according to the investigation deputy.
The driver of the car, Carl Martin Whaley, of 317 Downing street, Baldwin Park, was exonerated at an inquest held Wednesday afternoon when death was held "unavoidable accident".
Young Adsit was rushed to the Covina hospital but succumbed just after midnight Easter morning.
His untimely death stops a promising vocal career, according to William Lynch, high school musical director, who said Billie's voice was very good and developing remarkably well.
A sophomore in high school, he made many friends in both musical circles and athletics playing "B" football last season and taking part in other sports.
Billie was born in San Dimas on September 4, 1927. He moved to Baldwin Park several years ago and lived at 451 Francisquito Blvd. He leaves his mother, Mrs. Helen Dodenhoff, who is critically ill and in a coma, unable to be told of her son's death, and an eight year old sister, Marie Dodenhoff.
Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Paul McFarlin on Thursday afternoon at 2:30 at the Baldwin Park Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. Music at the service will be by Mr. Lynch and the high school girl's sextette with the entire glee clubs attending the service in masse.
Pallbearers will be Frank Adams, Charles Shay, Paul DeSaytets, Harold Bailey, Kenneth Keck and Bill Deskin.

Besides singing, you also played football. The world obviously lost a fine young man that day. May your loved ones take comfort in Christ's promise of eternal life.
