Burial will be in the Eventide Cemetery at Woonsocket. Friends may call at the Basham Funeral Home in Woonsocket Friday from 5-8 and at the church one hour prior to the service.

Beverly Jean Gere was born on March 3, 1929 in Woonsocket, SD to Rickell and Blanche (Grimes) Gere and grew up on their family farm south of Cuthbert, SD. She attended grade school in Cuthbert and high school in Letcher and Woonsocket, graduating from Woonsocket High School in 1948.

After graduation Beverly worked at the local Central Electric Office. On August 24, 1950 she married Milo L. Godfrey at the United Methodist Church in Woonsocket. Milo and Beverly moved to El Paso, TX in March of 1951 where Milo was stationed during the Korean Conflict. While living in El Paso, TX Beverly worked for the Hoover Company. In November of 1951 she moved back to Woonsocket when Milo received his transfer to Korea and she returned to work at Central Electric until the spring of 1953 when she quit to raise their family.

Milo and Beverly bought their home in the fall of 1952 where they lived and raised their family until both moved into Prairie View Care Center in July of 2006.

She was a lifelong member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Beverly enjoyed camping, vegetable gardening, preserving her produce and she was probably the very first Mrs. Fix It. There wasnt anything she couldnt build, fix, or repair; she even changed the oil in the car. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and she was one of the very best cooks around.

Beverly is survived by her three children; Gary Godfrey (Mike Roemmich) of Sioux Falls, SD, Jim Godfrey and his wife Lori of Watertown, SD, and Craig Godfrey (Ken Johnson) of Sioux Falls, SD, two grandchildren Adam Godfrey and Jessica Godfrey; sister-in-law Avis Elenz. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents her husband Milo in 2011, two brothers Donald and Harold who passed away in infancy, and her sister Marie (Gere) McGee.

Condolences may be sent to: Craig Godfrey at 1102 S. 2nd Ave. Sioux Falls, SD 57105. The family requests memorials be sent to: Prairie View Care Center PO Box 68 Woonsocket, SD 57385 in Beverlys name.
