OBITUARY
November 15, 1883 "Oberlin Herald"
Oberlin, Kansas
Truman Allen was born on August 22, 1807 in Madrod, Vermont. He was united with M. E. Church when 18 years of age in Wesleyville in Erie County, Pennsylvania. He married Miss Emeline Berry in Erie County, Pennsylvania who will survive him. They moved to Iowa and lived there sixteen years where at that time he was licensed as an exhorter in M. E. Church. They came to Mitchell County in 1869 where he made many warm friends and established for himself a spotless reputation. From there, they moved to Decatur County in 1881 where he lived about two years enduring the privations and hardships of a frontier country. While in declining years, he was stricken with dropsy, and after being contained to his bed for two or three months, he departed this life on September 18, 1883 in the 76th year of his age, in great peace and triumph in the Christian faith. He was a member of M. E. Church fifty eight years. He was a prompt business man and truthful in his dealings with his fellow man. In his home he was an affectionate husband, and loving father, and happy in all his relations to his family and neighbors. A good citizen, loyal to his country's interest in every respect, and during the Indian raid and massacre, when others left their country, he possessed with true moral courage, went to his dugout and stood firm and resolute. His Christian character was solid and well balanced, and he was not carried away by any strange doctrine. He was truly devoted to the Church of his choice and gave of his money to its support, and did all he could to extend the Redeemer's kingdom. He was a good man, and leaves a worthy example to his wife and eight children, and bequeath to posterity a good name. He now rests from his labors, and his works do follow him.
