Ernest Burguieres, Jr., a native Orleanian, was engineering officer aboard the USS CASSIN (DD-372) when it was sunk at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. He was 23 years old. His rank at that time was Ensign. He was later given command of a Navy patrol craft (PC-1138) and spent the balance of the war in the Pacific. He was separated from the Navy in 1946 with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He died in New Orleans on December 8, 1983 at age 65.
