In her early childhood she made several trips with her parents, by covered wagon to Illinois and Iowa. She attended school in Ridgeway and grew to womanhood there enjoying the life of the young people of the community.
On January 7, 1877 she was united in marriage to John Atchison. As a bride she settled on a farm near Overbrook where she resided for 48 years until the death of her husband March 25, 1925. Since then she had made her home with a daughter, Mrs Pearl O'Bryhim in Overbrook.
She was the mother of seven children, two preceding her in death; John in infancy and William in December of 1922. Those who survive are her children Mrs Daisy Herlan, Overbrook; Miss Ruth Atchison and Edward Atchison, Topeka; Mrs Myrtle Israel and Mrs Pearl O'Bryhim of Overbrook. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs G M Hart, Overbrook and Mrs A L Reed, Carbondale; one brother, Frank O Kinney, Carbondale; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist church with Rev G S Pritchett, Kansas City, Mo., officiating minister. A quartet, Mrs Joe Coffman, Mrs Elmer Ray, A L Oveson, and H R Long sang, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere", "Saved by Grace", and "In The Garden" with Mrs R O Waddle accompanist.
Serving as casket bearers were grandsons of Mrs Atchison, John Atchison, Bernard O'Bryhim, Alfred Herlan, John Herlan, Russell Israel, and Lee Atchison. Interment was in Ridgeway cemetery.
