Arthur A. "Jim" Myers, of Elsmore died Monday, Aug.2, at Moran Manor Nursing Center at the age of eighty three. He was born Dec. 20, 1915, in rural Moran, the son of William Jackson and Perna Elizabeth Myers.
He was a veteran of Word War II. He married Margaret Baker on April 6, 1947, at the Chanute First Christian Church.
He worked in the oil fields and later drove the Elsmore school bus. He and his wife also did janitorial work at the Elsmore school. He retired in 1981. He was a member of Virginia Lodge No. 315 AF&FM, Moran American Legion, LaHarpe Veterans of Foreign Wars and a charter member of Elsmore Ruritan Club. He was a former member of Scottish Rite at Fort Scott.
Survivors include his wife, of the home, two sons, Leslie A., of Garland, Texas, and Wayne A. of Derby; a brother Everett Lee"Mike" of Lakewood, Colo.; a sister, Lola Mae Crum of Indianapolis, Ind.; and four grandchildren, Nathan Matt, Stacey and Kristi Myers. Four brothers, Roy D. "Duke", Leo "Pete", Frank and Claude, and four sisters, Effie Justus, Beulah Myers, Ona Marie Schooley and Ruth Morrison, died earlier.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Elsmore United Methodist Church. The Rev. Connie Cox will officiate. Burial will be in Elsmore Cemetery. Military and Masonic graveside rites will be conducted at the cemetery.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Johnson-Kunkel Mortuary in Moran. Memorials to the Elsmore United Methodist Church can be left with the funeral home. (The Iola Register, August 3, 1999)
